Sheila Burt is a Chicago-based writer who primarily reports on issues related to public health and education. She also writes about music culture, environmental matters, and Japan. 

Currently, Sheila works as a grant writer for the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where she supports the hospital's physicians and researchers in the development of federal grant proposals focused on improving rehabilitation medicine and therapies.

Previously, she was an English teacher with the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program and a freelance local news reporter. Her writing has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Crain's Chicago Business, Gapers Block, and Tricycle, among other publications. She received a Bachelors of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Masters of Arts in Science Writing from The Johns Hopkins University.
