Taiko drumming

Taiko drumming in Namerikawa, Japan from Sheila Burt on Vimeo.

Taiko drumming, take one. One of my many goals in Japan is to take music lessons of some sort. I’ve already failed at guitar and bodhrán, so why not fail at another! About three weeks ago I had the chance to try Japanese-style drumming (taiko drumming). I can’t say much about the rhythm and what makes Japanese-style drumming unique, but the drums alone are a beautiful sight. Although I was completely awful at drumming, hitting the drum with the bachi was pretty awesome. Check out the video of the group we watched practice in Namerikawa as well as some pictures.
